Halloween 2015: The Force Awoke

This year I took the time again to devote myself to making some killer costumes. We are all excited for Episode 7 to come out, so we decided to throw back to Episode 4 for Halloween.

For previous Halloween Posts, see:

Han's costume was made by referencing photos from the movie and altering existing clothing and accessories to match. For Princess Leia, I referenced this and this

Baby Chewie was made by tweaking simple pantsshirt, and hood patterns.

For Darth Vader's costume, he wore black clothes, boots, and gloves (women's vintage leather), and I made these accessories for him. We bought the Official Mask/Helmet and lightsaber (because I didn't feel like DIYing these items.
For Luke, I made the gi found here. His shoes we just shoes covered with fabric with long tails that I could wrap around up his legs over his pants and safety pin at the top.
May the force be with you this Halloween!

Halloween 2013: I've Got No Strings

This post is more than overdue, but as I am preparing to start on costumes for this year, I figured I'd better get pictures from last year posted! There aren't many pictures either, as I fit in a work trip to Germany and Italy right before Halloween. As a result, I didn't snap many pictures, and the ones I did aren't great.

This year, I let C decide what he wanted to be-- which was a vampire. I thought that was pretty lame, but at least I could make him a sweet velvet and satin cape with lots of fancy jewels and bling. He absolutely loved it.

My sweet little L was Pinocchio. I made everything for his costume but the yellow shirt. The hat took a couple of tries, but I ended up being very happy with it!

For the hat, I used a Peter Pan hat to make a pattern. I cut out two, sewed them right sides together, turned inside out and finished the seam. Then I top-stitched the grosgrain ribbon.

Best picture I got of the wiggly little guy. If only he hadn't flipped his hat brim down!

Calvin Reviews: Shlomo & Vito's New York Delicatessen

Calvin reviews Shlomo & Vito's New York Delicatessen:

So, what do you think of this place?
 *Nods*

What do you like about it?
"I like that you can go on an outside walk while you wait for your food. We saw a waterfall, chairs, and people. We also looked at the cakes."

What did you have to eat?
"Pigs in a blanket. How do they make it?!?!"

How was it?
"Good. I dropped my shoe. Can someone hand me my shoe?"

If someone asked you if you had any ideas about a good place to eat in Tucson, what would you tell them?
"Shlombitos! And if they were wondering what they should order I'd say pigs in a blanket, pigs in a blanket, pigs-pigs, pigs-pigs, pigs in a blanket!"

...a little later, muttering to himself:
"That was the goodest meal I ever had."

Calvin Reviews

Calvin reviews Yoshimatsu Healthy Japanese Eatery.

What do you think you'd like to order?

"Nothing. I want dessert for dinner. There's everything yucky on this menu... I want this." (points to the Cinnamon Egg Roll Ice Cream)

Upon receiving our food, the only thing he wanted to taste was the little fish eggs on top of our sushi. He wouldn't touch his teriyaki chicken.

"These little balls are kinda squishy and wet and pop in my mouth."

Will you taste the edamame? (He tentatively puts one in his mouth.)

"This bean tastes gross. I want to get rid of it."

What are you doing now?

"Just doing little peas jumping on the bed."

If you had to choose one part of your bento box that was your favorite, what would you choose?

"Nothing. I don't like salad. I don't like that kind of rice. I only like rice with garlic salt on it."

Overall, what do you think of this restaurant?

"Nothing."

Would you come here again?

"Yeah. And that time can we have dessert?"

Happy 2!

Banana Cream Pie for the birthday boy!
Linus turned two in August! We had a "You Are My Sunshine" party for him since it is his favorite song and the only thing he'll sing. Sam gave my the idea inspired from this party and I just thought it was adorable. I decided to attempt a display in grand fashion like my friend, 3ReedDotters. (I am always SO inspired by her parties). I love how everything turned out!

Yummy yellow candy and treat bar for the partiers!
I've been wanting to make something like this for a while. Finally I had an idea of a design! I used burlap and my Great Grandmother's vintage yarn. It is now hanging in Linus's room.

Sneaking sunflower seeds...
Cousins ready for the party!

Mini Banana Cream Pie for Linus! He cried as we sang. He can't stand it when people unite in song. It freaks him out.

I loved his little curls! After the party, I cut them off...:( He needed a better haircut.

He has grown so much! He says a few words and strings them together in simple sentences (mostly about what kind of food he'd like). He LOVES cars and anything with wheels. His favorite thing to do is cuddle, but running around the house with toy cars while giggling with Calvin is a close second. Here is Linus throughout the last year:

Calvin Reviews

I am starting a new feature on this blog in which Calvin reviews restaurants, shows, and movies. I hope you enjoy experiencing these places through the eyes of a four year old.

IHOP

Could you tell me about the food?
I got a silly pancake and the best part was the syrup. The syrup tasted so so so so so so so so so so good. There are lots of syrups. The butter kind looked like our syrup. The red and yellow syrups were the best. They were too good.

How was the service?
What's that?

Would you come here again?
YES!
